Background |
The Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor Course (ACLS-I) aims to develop proficiency in teaching ACLS provider course. Proficiency includes the ability to set up an ACLS provider course based on the results of a pre-course “learning needs assessment” of a particular student population. The purpose of the ACLS Provider Course is to provide an adult education experience for healthcare professionals who manage cardiac arrest, life-threatening arrhythmia and acute ischemic stroke.
The AHA Core Instructor Course aims to strengthen the skills and proficiency in teaching and facilitate the personal professional development as an AHA instructor. It is currently a requisite for anyone who wants to become the AHA instructor. |

| Course Pre-requisites |
- Personnel who are working in emergency, intensive care, critical care or acute departments/wards; emergency medical providers such as medical officers, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics and other professionals who need to respond to a cardiovascular emergency in adult.
- Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS Provider status who are interested in teaching AHA ACLS Provider courses
- Demonstrate acceptable ACLS provider skills
- Provide a completed instructor candidate application
- Agree to teach at least 4 courses in a 2 year period
- Be aligned with an AHA training centre
- The Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine will provide the updated teaching material to the valid instructors
Successful ACLS Instructors will be finally approved by 3-step process:
- Successful Completion of the ACLS Instructor Course;
- Monitored Teaching: the candidate must participate actively and effectively in TWO ACLS provider courses while being monitored by an ACLS affiliate faculty member or ACLS course director;
- Faculty / Affiliate Review: The successful participant will receive an ACLS Instructor card after review of the above experience by a discretionary panel.
Candidates are strongly recommended to read the AHA ACLS Provider Manual and Instructor’s Manual before the class. The course material including AHA ACLS Instructor’s Manual and AHA 2005 ECC Handbook can be collected after successful registration. Early registration and collection of course materials is much encouraged. |
