American Heart Association (AHA)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course

Course Background
The AHA ACLS Provider Course provides knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult arrest. The course uses case-based teaching. Providers are expected to learn to manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, 4 types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA, and asystole), 4 types of pre-arrest emergencies (bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia, and acute coronary syndromes), and stroke.

The ACLS Course consists of three 45mins lectures, one video show and multiple practical scenarios to help the participants to acquire the techniques of ACLS. Simulators will be used in different scenarios to make the whole training more interesting and challenging.

The Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine has been providing resuscitation training since 1991. All accredited AHA instructors are practicing medical or nursing colleagues with years of teaching experience.

Course Test
To complete the ACLS Provider Course, candidate should be able to demonstrate adult CPR skills and use of the AED and achieve the learning objectives for each core case outlined in the critical evaluation checklist.

A post-course written MCQ examination will be issued. The passing rate is 85%.

Successful candidate will be given with the AHA ACLS completion card.

Reading Material
The course material including AHA ACLS Provider Manual and AHA 2008 ECC Handbook will be ready for collection after successful application. Early application and collection of course materials is much encouraged.
