Concerning the eligibility criteria of our intermediate examination (i.e. the conjoint IEEM/MCEM from 2010 till 2012)

No scheduled stand alone or independent IEEM planned for 2010-2012*

All applicants must fulfill the minimum requirements of MCEM before they are allowed to sit the examination

Please note that:

  1. It is necessary to have completed 12 months internship AND 24 months training post full-registration (i.e. a total of 36 months including internship)

  2. PEEM is recognized as equivalent to MCEM Part A. Therefore candidates should attempt PEEM (or MCEM Part A) for their Part 1 qualification

  3. MHKICBSC Part 1&2 is not accepted by CEM

  4. MRCS Parts 1&2, and MRCP Part 1 will not be accepted by CEM after 2010*. For the holders of MRCS Parts 1&2 and MRCP Part 1, they might be allowed for re-sit after 2010, but NOT first-time enrolment in the exam after 2010. Therefore, trainees, who have not yet had Part 1 qualification, are advised to attempt PEEM (instead of the others which were accepted in the past)

Trainee applicants and Training supervisors are advised to visit the CEM website for current eligibility criteria
(http://www.collemergencymed.ac.uk/CEM/ )

Remarks:
* HKCEM will continue to negotiate with UK CEM to see:
if CEM would provide assistance in running an IEEM alone examination but this is not an option at present.
if some HK candidates with MRCS Parts 1&2 or MRCP Part 1, who were eligible for IEEM before Mar 2010 and with 24+ months experience but not fulfilling CEM criteria, can also be examined
